We offer an English speaking driver who can provide transportation, but highly recommend adding a private guide for a more memorable experience. A private guide is available for the 6/7 hour walking tour of the Vatican City and Christian Rome.Your driver will be waiting for you at your port of arrival, holding a sign with your name on it.
The vehicle & driver would be at the ship as you disembark to pick you up and bring you into the city (to meet up with the guide) and would then be at your disposal for the full day of sightseeing in Rome to help you during your day. At the end of your day the driver would then drive you back directly to your ship.
The Vatican Ratified in 1929 as a sovereign state, the 108 acres of ground within the Vatican city walls house St. Peter's Basilica (the largest Christian church in the world an architectural achievement of the Renaissance and Baroque), the Vatican Museums with magnificent works of art including the Sistine Chapel with its famous ceiling painted by Michelangelo, and lush immaculately cured gardens. Since it is governed by the Bishop of Rome, the Pope, its government can be described as ecclesiastical and the highest state functionaries are in fact clerics.
The modern-day home of the pope, is the smallest independent nation state in the world in terms of area and population. It is the territorial seat of the Holy See, the institutional entity represented by the Pope, and hence the principal ecclesiastical seat of the Catholic Church of both Eastern and Western worlds.
Visit the Catacombs of the early Christians, miles of underground burial sites up to four stories deep, just outside the Ancient city walls of Rome, and also the believed site of illegal worship during the persecutions. Also visit some of the major churches in Rome such as St. John's Cathedral, St. Mary's Major and St. Paul's outside the walls.
It is important to note that proper attire must be worn in the Vatican; shoulders and knees must be covered.
